Summer In Australia

Summer In Australia

"The summer smiles, the summer knows
And unashamed she sheds her clothes
The summer smooths the restless sky
And lovingly she warms the sand
On which you lie

The summer knows, the summer's wise
She sees the doubts within your eyes
And so she takes her summer time
Tells the moon to wait and the sun to linger
Twists the world 'round her summer finger
Lets you see the wonder of it all.

And if you've learned your lessons well
There's little more for her to tell
One last caress, its time to dress for fall."

The Summer Knows
By: Michel Legrand as sung by Barbra Streisand (1971)

December, January and February are summer months in Australia.  It is that time of the year when the sun shines brighter and the waves gently touch the sea shores.  It is that time when fine golden sands are warm enough for the skin as one bares or exposes his/her body unmindful of passersby. It is that time when one is tempted to dip in the crystal blue waters as a way of bringing the body temperature down.

Summer is the season when seagulls and other seabirds become more playful as they make soothing chirping sounds.  They perch on tree branches, on steel bars of jettys, atop railings of parks or reserves and on fences.  They make beautiful music as they continuously chirp as they fly from one branch to another. The colorful Rosellas, Galas and Cockatoos take delight bathing in puddles of water.

Summer, being the warmest of four changing seasons, lures one to go fishing.  It can be fly fishing, spearfishing, trapping, netting or angling.  The thought of catching a bass, or a blue marlin, all the more entices the fishing buff to venture out to the sea. The sea becomes a big playground where one can test his mettle and patience in fishing, in test driving a motorboat or trying out water skiing.

And summer is the best time to simply stroll along the beach with a special someone, whispering sweet nothings. Or while away the time sitting on wooden benches with a good view of the ocean or of the mountains or hills. It is a good time to read a good book at quiet parks and gardens.  And it is the most appropriate time to do some soul searching. To pause and ponder awhile. As the song above says:  "If you have learned your lessons well, there's little more for her to tell...One last caress, it's time to dress for fall. "  Clearly spoken.

                                                                                                                                                                    - Konted
