The Town Of Cowes

The Town Of Cowes

Cowes is an old town located at Phillip Island. The township was established in the 1800s. It is about 125 kilometers from Melbourne. It is a quiet place where visitors can go fishing or ride a ferry or join a boat cruise. Or simply stroll along the foreshore. There are benches and tables near its concrete jetty. From there, they can enjoy the sea breeze and the magnificent view of Western Port. A few meters away is a war memorial dedicated to residents of Cowes who fought in WWI & WWII but died in action.

The jetty at Cowes. Cowes was named after a seaport town on the Isle of Wight in England.

There are many picnic tables at the sloping foreshore.

At the outskirts of the town is the Grand Prix Circuit where prestigious car racing events are regularly held. And motorcycling events too. One can buy take-home items at the Visitors' Center. Along the main road, sheep and cows are seen grazing on vast green pastures. Aside from watching the Penguin Parade at dusk, there are so many things to do and many places to visit at Cowes and the nearby areas that a three-day stay at Phillip Island is not enough.
