Man Does Not Live By Bread Alone
Man does not live by bread alone. How true! Aside from sliced bread or buns or baguettes, he needs condiments to spread on the bread like mayonnaise, butter, catsup or mustard. Then the fillings such as deli meat, chicken strips, roast beef, cheese, eggs, peanut butter, jelly etc.
Next he adds vegetables like lettuce, tomatoes and onions. True enough, he needs a lot of things to make a sandwich for a quick meal. It is not by bread alone does man live.
Sandwiches are considered light meals which many people take with them in lunch pails or simply wrapped in aluminum foil. Many restaurants also serve a variety of sandwiches.
When the sliced bread was introduced in 1928, sandwiches became more popular. The BLT, or Bacon, Lettuce and Tomatoes Sandwich, Chicken Sandwich, Tuna Sandwich, Ham and Egg are some of the many sandwiches enjoyed by millions.
But the sandwich that has gained popularity around the world is the Clubhouse Sandwich. It has become a classic. It is my favorite sandwich.
The Clubhouse Sandwich was introduced to the public in the late 1800s in Saratoga Springs, New York. It consists of two layers with the bread cut into four portions and has fillings of bacon, chicken or turkey, lettuce and tomatoes.
Mayonnaise is spread on the bread to add to the flavor. The bread is toasted. It is usually served with French Fries or potato chips. It is more commonly called Club Sandwich.
Yesterday, I wanted to make a clubhouse sandwich. I listed down what I needed: a bottle of Ladies Choice mayonnaise, a Gardenia loaf of bread, Monterey bacon, Magnolia chicken and some lettuce and tomatoes. I made some computation. It would reach P420 to make a clubhouse sandwich.
Taking into account the time and effort needed, I dropped what I was doing and mounted my surplus Japanese bike. I proceeded to the nearest Tropical Hut outlet and ordered a Clubhouse Sandwich with French Fries and Iced Tea. All for P120 only.
